"Singing Cloud" by Shilpa Gupta
Singing Cloud, an artwork by containing 4000 steel microphones and speakers inside creating disorientating sounds: whispers, the patter of raindrops.
this artwork is inspirated from the recent terrorist attack in Mumbai where Shilpa Gupta was born.
She wanted us to realize that the world is falling apart. Life is becoming more individual, and i think this could be showing the cause of the bombing. the bomb happened because people are too
ignorant to beware of the terrorist attacks for example helping notice suspicious people that might cause a terrorist attack that could kill thousands of people.
the pile of microphone represent the voices of the people in India, saying that they now no longer
have individual society and now want to make the place a better and safer place, and free from terrorism.

ReplyDeleteHey Jason Derulo, just want to add a little information to your answers!
ReplyDeleteYes, The main theme is exploring and taking risks in todays contemporary art, and also risks we take in our life (the adventure and challenges). Todays art challenges our views to go deeper and to see it through the artist's point of view.
Here's a list of this year's triennial:
New Zealand, Germany, Australia, USA, Ireland, Sweden, Argentina, Denmark, Mexico, Iran, England, Scotland, India, Lebanon, China and France.
Anyway, that's all i can add here!

Shilpta Gupta 'Singing Cloud' 2000, steel and microphones. When i first saw this work. it made me feel kind of uncomfortable and asking to myself "What is that thing". Then i listened to the different noise from different microphone. Instantly, the word freedom and hope came to my mind. This work impressed me because Shilpta Gupta could communicate through her work quite very well.
ReplyDeleteMoreover, when i look down at the shadow of 1000 of microphones. It looks like some creepy living thing and made me fear somehow.
This work is conceptual for me. It made me think a lot of things such as poor people , terrorist , monster, ritual , and politics exploitation.
This work is easy to understand what the artist want to say. It also depicted currently issue from around the world.
